For his work at the Institute of Applied Physics, the CSIC and the University of Alcalá de Henares (both in Madrid) on the propagation of light in optical fibers including his research on fast light and slow light that have shown some control over the speed of signal propagation in these fibers, even getting super-group velocities and negative lighting still yours the first experimental demonstration of this latter effect as well as the development of applications to work in close collaboration with industry and the creation of a new technological company based on their findings. His work has been widely cited and they have echoed the most prestigious scientific and professional journals, and even the lay press.
